About GCC

glasgow gig happy peopleThe Contemporary Choir originally started in Edinburgh back in 2013, with the launch of the Edinburgh Contemporary Choir. Founded by a team of musicians and vocal coaches, the group was formed to give people with no prior experience the opportunity to enjoy singing in a group, meeting other people, and performing in public.

Within 10 weeks of our first choir starting, we were performing live on stage. Despite the nerves, the amazing reception was enough to make sure everyone taking part was keen for more.

We quickly grew to four sites across Edinburgh, with hundreds of members attending each week, and when we started getting booked for very busy public events, we knew it was time to take the idea further.

In 2014, we launched our first choir in Glasgow and haven’t looked back since. Now, we have two sessions in Glasgow, meeting each Tuesday night in Renfield St Stephens on Bath Street. There’s no pressure and nobody is forced to feel uncomfortable. Because there is no sheet music, it is totally accessible to anyone who wants to take part – and we sound amazing!

We are booked to perform at events throughout the year, so it’s a great chance to experience the excitement and satisfaction of performing as part of a group. There’s no pressure to perform if you don’t want to, but most of our members say that’s the best bit!

With a new term right around the corner, we’re looking forward to more amazing opportunities in the weeks and months to come. As we continue to write the next chapter of our story, we hope you can be a part of it.
